The "Winter on the Road" campaign invites drivers to monitor road conditions

Last weekend showed that the time has come in Estonia when drivers have to take into account black ice, darkness, rain, wind, slush and many other factors.

Winter road conditions in Estonia mean much more than just snowy roads. The snow may not have fallen, but temperature fluctuations mean that road conditions and driving conditions can change very quickly. So, regardless of the current weather, it is important to remember that winter is on its way.

"The aim of the campaign is to draw the attention of road users to the fact that road conditions change rapidly in winter and a safe driving style must be chosen for traffic," emphasized Raido Randmaa, Director of Road Administration of the Road Administration. "Winter is on the way in the literal sense, ie the road is slippery or snowy and winter is on the way. It is therefore worth avoiding unnecessary overtaking and sudden maneuvers. When giving way at an intersection or pedestrian crossing, speed must be reduced in good time. "

He added that our maintenance partners are ready for the winter and have already taken care of the weather according to the weather. However, road users must take into account that winter maintenance time is required for winter maintenance. Therefore, road users must also be alert and take into account the changing road and driving conditions.

A survey commissioned by the Road Administration showed that only 59% of drivers search for information on driving conditions before starting to drive. Women, people over the age of 50 and non-Estonians, and drivers in larger cities are more likely to search for driving information.

We invite all road users to check the road and driving conditions at Tarktee.ee before sitting behind the wheel.
